2017 Duval Sports Large School: Second Team All-Area Defense

We release our 2017 All-Area football teams beginning this week, our All-Area teams are split up into small school and large school teams to give more kids due recognition.

Our large school teams (Class 5A-8A) consists of players from Sandalwood, Mandarin, Lee, Columbia, Fletcher, First Coast, Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Fleming Island, Creekside, Oakleaf, St. Augustine, Nease, Ed White, Middleburg, Englewood, Ribault, Yulee, Stanton, Paxon, Suwannee, Bolles, Trinity, Ponte Vedra, Bishop Kenny, Parker, Westside, Baker County, Clay, Menendez, Ridgeview, Palatka and Orange Park.

Our All-Area teams are all about production and not about recruiting rankings or offers on the table. You don’t produce you don’t make our teams.

Second team Defense

Ryan Rice, Menendez, Sr., LB
Why: 122 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery

Arturo Alfonso, Paxon, Sr., LB
Why: 101 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks

Gabe Border, Paxon, Jr., LB
Why: 102 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 7 sacks

Michael Munder, Bishop Kenny, Sr., LB
Why: Munder was a tackling machine with 105 tackles, averaging 10 tackles a game

Robert Zuzu, St. Augustine, Jr., DL
Why: 87 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 9 sacks

Darius Stanley, St. Augustine, Jr., DL
Why: 46 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 9 sacks in only 8 games

Josh Rickerson, St. Augustine, Sr., DL
Why: 85 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 9 sacks

Marquavian Wright, Fleming Island, Sr., DL
Why: 66 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles

Tyrek Russ, St. Augustine, Sr., DB
Why: 45 tackles, 4 interceptions

Bobby Brown, Fleming Island, Jr., DB
Why: 50 tackles, 25 pass breakups, 3 interceptions

Harry Bowker, Bartram Trail, Jr., DB
Why: 41 tackles, 4 interceptions, 3 tackles for loss

Nick Lee, Baker County, Sr., DB
Why: 89 tackles and 4 interceptions

Tyreke Johnson, Trinity, Sr., ATH
Why: Statistically speaking he didn’t have a great year but what you saw on the field was mind blowing with 12 total touchdowns, 25 tackles, two interceptions, 33.8 punt average and 2 special teams touchdowns

Jarrett Stepp, Ponte Vedra, Sr., ATH
Why: Two way standout had 26 tackles, 2 interceptions and 9 pass breakups, while also hauling in 29 catches for 532 yards and 9 touchdowns

Elijah Ryan, St. Augustine, Jr., KS
Why: 42 yard kickoff average, 62/66 PAT, 6/9 FG
