High School Lacrosse: April Showers Brings Saints Flowers

Sandalwood-  Earlier day thunderstorms and showers would not deter  Sandalwood and Paxon from stepping out onto a slippery and humid field to play their lacrosse game this week. The Lady Saints would go on to wash out The Lady Eagles in an 8-2 victory. Senior Pyper Vaughn would courageously lead Sandalwood throughout the entire game, displaying leadership and a positive representation of a team player.

Georgia native and first year Sandalwood Girls Lacrosse Coach Joseph Chandler Byrd exclaimed , “The Girls came to play and we definitely showed them how to play Lacrosse tonight.” Sandalwood would push forward to battle against Paxon despite the weather delay. Aware of the Senior night festivities, officials  ultimately agreed upon a game which consisted of two twenty minute halves.

The Lady Saints dominated the entire first half of the game outscoring The Lady Eagles 5-0. Sandalwood’s offensive speed posed a challenge for Paxon’s defense. Uproars of abundant cheers could be heard near the end of the field. None of the cheerleaders were not in attendance and the fans remained in the stands silent. Paxon!! Paxon!! Paxon!! The Paxon Lacrosse sideline surprisingly boomed, filled with an unsurpassed amount of excitement and energy unshaken by the one sided first half.

With a little over seventeen minutes left in the second half , the Lady Eagles would embrace the score board to trail the Lady Saints 5-1.  Seniors Katrina Abuan, Lena Doty and Amina Hamzic  led Sandalwood with force. Sophomore Ajla Rizvanovic would team up with fellow teammates to become a break out play-maker for The Lady Saints.

Leading Paxon 8-1 with a little under four minutes left in the second half , The Lady Saints would miss the opportunity to block a shot allowing the Lady Eagles to score. Paxon’s valiant effort came up short of victory as Sandalwood blossomed after the rain.

A well played game consisting of mutual excitement and cheer from both teams  resulted in a blissful evening in lieu of the mud and pools of standing water.  Despite the roller coaster season thus far, Coach Byrd expects to Lead the Lady Saints to Districts.
