Class 1A: Local Athletes Crowned State Champions in Track & Field

There’s no greater feeling for a high school track & field athlete than to compete against the best on the highest stage of track & field and win the gold medal signifying state champion. Well for twelve local athletes, that euphoric feeling of triumph came true as they won state championships in their own backyard at the University of North Florida. We highlight the Top 8 State Finalist in every class in a series of stories starting with our 1A Class.


In Class 1A, St. Johns Country Day’s Courtney Sage won the 100M hurdles (44.19) and was also runner-up in the 300M hurdles. 

St. John’s Country Day had several athletes that competed at high levels. Nasua Williams won the adaptive shot put with a 13-6.75

Also in 1A Madison Murray of Providence jumped 5-1.75 in the high jump placing 5th. In the triple jump, Murray jumped a 36-1.25 placing 3rd, while also competing in the pole vault with a 10-4.

Trinity Christian’s Germanie Bozeman ran a 12.28 in the 100m placing 2nd. In the 200m, Bozeman ran a 25.36 time placing 5th.

Bozeman competed at a very high level as a junior and looks forward to finishing 1st as a senior next year.

Albert Williams of Bishop Snyder in 110M Hurdles (15.73) placed 6th. Ashley Moore of Bishop Snyder placed 5th in the 300M Hurdles running a 47.30 .

Their teammate Jalen Chance placed 1st in the triple jump with a 46-11.5 and 1st in the long jump with dstance of 23’6.25.

Chance would also finish 3rd in the 100M with a 10.89.


In the Shot put adaptive, Jackson Gilreath of Florida Deaf placed 1st throwing a 16-8.5.

University Christian’s Kayla Cleveland placed 3rd overall in the 100M hurdles.

Alexandra Cleveland also competed in the girls high jump and 400m. Teammate Laci Watford a placed 7th in the 800M and 1600M runs while placing 4th in the 3200M with a 11:13.70.

Audrey Wuerfell of Harvest Community placed 4th with a 3.15m

Megan Murray of Providence placed 7th in the long jump with a 4.91M

Alana Lecointe 34.75M discus throw 6th ( Bishop Snyder)

Corey Mc Daniels of St. Johns Country Day placed 4th in the boys 400M Finals (50.92)

Mattew Stratton (St. Johns Country Day placed 4th in the boys 3200m (9.28:62)

(Providence) Steven Cartwright placed 6th in the boys 3200m (9:41.01)
