JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Despite countless rough plays, two heavy downpours, and a lightning delay, the Fletcher Senators (1-0) managed to hold the Terry Parker Braves (0-1) scoreless through four quarters of football.

Both sides came out fired up and ready to prove a point to the other team. Both defenses played hard but the Senators jumped on the board with a field goal midway through the first quarter to make the score 3-0.

With 1 minute to play in the first quarter, junior wide receiver Lajae Jones caught a touchdown to help put the Senators up 9-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Braves looked to make a push during the second quarter. Senior wide receiver Darrell Bryant, caught a wide open pass while falling to the ground from sophomore quarterback Roman Doles. But neither team could find their way to the end zone by halftime. Score remained at 9-0 Senators.

After a heavy downpour to end the first half, both team regrouped and came out ready to compete for another two quarters. Senior wide receiver Daniel Shaw, showcased his speed with the opening punt return and got the Braves sideline energized. 44 seconds later both teams were forced off the field due to lightning for almost 20 minutes.

When play resumed the Senators’ offense went right to work. Junior quarterback Chad Elder, rushed for a touchdown to put his team up 16-0 with 7:47 to play in the third.

The third quarter ended with the score 16-0 thanks to sophomore linebacker Eli Durden. Durden handed out 2 strong tackles to the Braves offense. One going to the Braves QB Doles.

The final quarter saw the Senators score one more time. This time by senior running back Myles Montgomery. It would be the final touchdown of the night for the Senators.

Montgomery ran for 175 yards on 32 carries. But it could not have been done without Fletcher’s impressive offensive line composed of Mike Bartilucci, Chandler Kirton, and Bryce Virata. This senior line cleared the way for Montgomery to come up big for his team tonight.
