Big Tests Highlight Week 4 of SJMSAA Football

Week four of the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association football season saw big tests, but giants remain unbowed. Gamble Rogers and Liberty Pines seem to be on a collision course as they are the only teams to remain unbeaten.

SJMSAA Football Scores

Gamble Rogers 14 Murray 8

In a rematch of the 2019 SJMSAA championship, Gamble Rogers defeated Murray 14-8. A tough defensive battle in the first quarter turned into a back and forth second quarter of scoring for the two teams. Joseph Soto led the rushing attack for Gamble Rogers on a 16 play 65 yard drive culminating with a Brooks Cornelison touchdown. Soto converted the 2-point score to give the Stingrays an 8-0 lead.

On the ensuing drive Murray would navigate a 4 play 61 yard drive which ended in a Darrell Jenkins touchdown pass to Christian Coleman. Coleman would score the 2-point conversion to tie the game at halftime 8-8.

In the second half Gamble Rogers defense would yield zero points, keeping the Bulldogs out of the end-zone. Long runs by Mike Wright set the team up in scoring position. However a costly penalty by Murray moved them out of scoring position. Gamble Rogers capitalized in the second half with another Brooks Cornelison run as the Stingrays took the win 14-8 to remain undefeated on the season. Murray fell to 2-2 on the season.

Sebastian 33 Mill Creek 6

Landrum 29 Pacetti Bay 6

Fruit Cove 15 Swiss Point 8

It was another big test for two teams trying to get their first win. The Fruit Cove Flyers were able to get their first win of the season over rival Swiss Point. Aiden Robbins touchdown catch was the deciding score for the Flyers. The Raiders fell to 0-4 on the season and are looking to spark a victory flame for their next game. Fruit Cove hopes to build momentum with the big win.

Patriot Oaks 34 Valley 28

Liberty Pines 24 over PVA 8

Marco Lanza scored a rushing touchdown leading the rushing attack for Liberty Pines as they remained undefeated on the season. Incredibly, The Wolves are first in the league on defense with points allowed and third in the league on offense with points scored. Their defense allowed their first touchdown this week but has five takeaways on the season. The most glaring stat is on offense, as they have no turnovers to date.
