Godby Shuts Out Paxon; Advances To Quarter-Finals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 44 first half points. 36 of those points came in the second quarter for the Godby Cougars (4-3). That effort helped them defeat the Paxon Golden Eagles (3-5), 64-0.

The first quarter showed both teams attempting to find their rhythm. The Cougars found theirs with 7:46 left to play in the quarter. Senior Wide Receiver, Khayman Barnes caught a high flying pass from behind him with a Paxon defender on his hip. Godby went for the extra two points and got it to put them up 8-0 after the first.

The Running Backs senior Mason Anderson and junior Chase Gillespie combined for five touchdowns in the second quarter alone. Anderson scored the first two to put the Cougars up 20-0 at the 7:28 mark in the second. Gillespie scored the next three to put Godby up 44-0.

The Cougars carried over their first half mindset into the second half. One minute into the third, Godby scored again. This time Lonnie Williams, senior Quarterback, got in on the action. He ran into the end zone to make the score 50-0.

With five minutes remaining in the third, senior Fullback Terrance Brown went into turbo mode and didn’t stop until he found the end zone. The Cougars converted on the two point conversion and the score was now 58-0 after three quarters of play.

The last touchdown of the game came three minutes into the last quarter. Freshman Quarterback Amarion Wilson put the icing on the cake for the Cougars to make the final score 64-0.

The Paxon Golden Eagles season comes to a close but the Godby Cougars survive and advance to the Quarter-Finals next Friday night at 7:30pm. They will face the Ribault Trojans (2-6) at Ribault. The Trojans defeated the Choctawhatchee Indians (0-8), 38-33.
