King Me; Benford Leads Menendez Over Orange Park

Orange Park Fl- In a game of football checkers, strong rushing from King Benford, including 218 yards and 4 touchdowns, helped advance Menendez past Orange Park on the 2020 playoff board. The talented junior opened up the score in the first quarter when he would break an 80 yarder to give Menendez a quick 7-0 lead.

Deandre Robinson of Orange Park would answer right back as he’d take the ensuing kickoff 95-yards for a touchdown. Evening the game at 7-7, Menendez’s offense would drive down the field and quarterback King Benford would run in his his second touchdown of the 1st quarter as Menendez would take a 14-7 lead.  

On the next offensive drive for Orange Park, Menendez’s defense would come up with an an interception and another King Benford touchdown would push the lead further for Menendez at 21-7. Orange Park however, would storm back with touchdown drives capped off by runs from running-backs Jojo Restall and Deandre Robinson to tie the game at 21-21.

After forcing a three and out and converting a field goal, Orange Park would take a 24-21 lead into the half. However, that would be the last lead they’d hold as Menendez would take control of the game in the third quarter.

King Benford would score his fourth touchdown in the quarter and a 64-yard explosion by Tabias Brown, followed by another one in the fourth quarter would put the game out of reach at 41-24. 

Menendez made history by winning two playoff games in a season for the first time in school history. They’ll travel to Dunnellon for the Regional Semifinals next week.
