Jacksonville FL- It’s late in the football season, and that means scheduled homecomings for high schools. When Riverside visited Trinity Friday night, it was more than just a homecoming for Trinity Christian the school, but it was a homecoming for two former Trinity players now on the Riverside Generals sideline in linebacker Bryce Capers and quarterback Daniel Plummer III. The two seniors make up a piece of a revamped Riverside team, who brought them back home to Trinity and wrecked their homecoming 28-20.

The Generals struck first, capitalizing on a fumble by Trinity and recovered by senior Joe Morrison. The Generals turned the turnover into points, as Al Gibson would score on a short touchdown run as Riverside took an early lead 7-0.

Trinity would then capitalize on a turnover, when sophomore Branden Forscutt forced a fumble and it was recovered by the Conquerors. Just minutes later, quarterback Colin Hurley would hook up with Fred Highsmith for the touchdown tying the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Generals marched down the field like General Sherman’s march to the sea. Led by their team captain Jaheim Singletary, the talented two way player caught a long pass highlighting the drive. It culminated in a long touchdown pass by Daniel Plummer III to Rickie Shaw for a touchdown. Shaw came over from Jackson this year, to make up a dangerous wide receiving core.

Trinity attempted to respond with nice runs by Treyaun Webb (Oklahoma Commit) and Darnell Rogers. However, disaster struck when a Conqueror pass was intercepted by Joe Morrison who raced down field for the pick 6. The second quarter saw a 14-point onslaught by the Generals as they led 21-7 going into halftime.

In the second half, Trinity would close the gap on a powerful run by Darnell Rogers who broke several tackles on his way to an 80-yard touchdown scamper. The amazing run cut the score to 21-13 in the third quarter. However Riverside was just to much. Senior and leader Cale Zarah would hit Freddie Manning for a touchdown pass to go up two scores. Manning is a new weapon that came over from Ribault as a wide receiver.

A Treyaun Webb (Oklahoma Commit) touchdown run in the fourth quarter cut the lead to 28-20 with five minutes to play in the game. However it wasn’t enough for Trinity, as the Riverside defense kept them out of the end zone and made for a happy homecoming for their teammates.

Next week Riverside travels to Westside, while Trinity is on a bye before ending the regular season with Tallahassee Lincoln.
