Jackson Causes Nightmares In The Graveyard Defeating Raines To Win District Title

Jacksonville Fl- It was a battle for the 2M-1 District crown between the Jackson Tigers (7-1) and the Raines Vikings (6-1). Jackson came into the game winners of 7-straight after falling to Brunswick on kick-off classic weekend. Raines were winners of 5-straight games coming into the contest as both teams were red-hot. In the end, it would be Main Street, over Moncrief as Jackson brought Nightmares to the Graveyard defeating Raines 21-12 Thursday night.

Raines took a 12-0 lead in the second quarter after a Sincere Cohen 2-yard touchdown run opened the scoring in the first quarter. The Vikings missed the extra point. That score was set up by a deflected pass that fell into the hands of Raines’ defensive back Michael Singleton at the Jackson 2-yard line.

Raines would score again in the second quarter when Jyon Simon recovered a Tigers fumble in the end zone, putting the Vikings up 12-0, with 4:26 to play before the half. The Vikings took a 12-0 lead into halftime, that very easily couldv’e been 18-0 as Jackson dodged disaster when linebacker Thomas Fore picked off a Raines’ pass at the goal line. The Vikings had goal-to-go at the Tigers’ 4 before the interception!

The second half was a completely different half for both teams, as Jackson completely domintated. First, 4-star linebacker Grayson Howard took a hand-off and ran for a 12 yard touchdown run to get on the board for Jackson. Just three plays later, Raines quarterback Roman Doles would throw a pick 6 to Jackson’s Symeon Cobham-Portorreal, and just like that Jackson took the lead14-12 over Raines in the third quarter.

Finally, Jackson running back Fred Gaines would score on a 2-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring and the game 21-12 defeating Raines, and winning a district title for the first in 13-years. Jackson (8-1) close out the regular season at First Coast (5-3). Raines (6-2) will travel to Westside (1-8) to conclude the regular season.
