Volleyball: Duval Charter On Pace For Most Wins In School History

Northeast Fl- The Duval Charter Panthers are on the prowl this season, and off to their best start since 2019. That year they went 7-4, but this year they have already bested that win total and are looking to make school history.

The Panthers won 10 games back in 2017 the most in history at the time. However, in 2023, this team is currently on pace to match that win total, and could eclipse the mark with a regular season finale against Bishop Snyder.

The Panthers defeated Paxon Thursday night 3-0 to improve to 9-7 on the season. Yumi Chery scored the deciding kill of the last set to bring home the victory. She is one of many great players on the team including Paola Gonzalez, Chelsea Gardepe, Kaliyaha Cantwell, and Alejandra Valdez.

The team has accomplished may goals this season with a great all around effort from the team. It’s been that type of team work that’s been the difference for this exceptional squad, led by head coach Sheridan Perez. We interviewed some key contributors to the team Emma Johns, Chloe Gilreath, Marley Foster, and Marissa Wright.

Perez has been able to get the best out of a team that doesn’t have much height. Their athleticism, and positive attitudes have driven their success. One of the Panther leaders of the team is Marissa Wright who is a setter and plays outside. “I’m really proud of us, last year we had a losing record so far we’ve already done better than that. we have alot of players playing different positions and everyone is adjusting well“- Marissa Wright.

Duval Charter will face River City Science Academy on 10/10/23, a team they already bested this year to go for win number ten to tie the best record in school history.
