WESTSIDE JPW WINS D2 POP WARNER SUPER BOWL

ORLANDO (December 13, 2019) – Jacksonville’s Westside Wildcats rolled to a convincing win over the previously unbeaten Oak Cliff (Dallas) Titans in the National Championship game Friday morning in the 63rd Pop Warner Super Bowl at Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. This is the second national title in two years for the Westside Pop Warner program. Last year a Wildcats team won the Division 1 Pee Wee Pop Warner title.

With the 40-0 win, this Wildcats team claimed the national D2 Junior Pee Wee title. They earned their way into the title game with an overtime 18-12 win over the Capital City (NC) Steelers on Tuesday.

In the Championship game, Westside got big plays from their big play makers in the biggest game of the year. Touchdown runs by #3 Fareed Coleman Jr, #13 Javares Rickerson, and #8 Jabari McMillan set the tone for the ground attack for Westside. The run game has been a staple for Westside and their coaching staff all year.

Yet the Wildcats are not just a running team, and they showcased that in the national championship game. Westside can air it out, and did so when quarterback #15 Rodney Townsend III hit #2 Naeem Burroughs for a big touchdown, blowing the game open.

No championship team is complete without a championship defense, and Westside has that too. Westside’s defense shut out the Milton Steelers 42-0 in the Southeast Region first round of the playoffs. They followed that up by blanking the Canopy Oaks Rams 40-0 to become Southeast Regional Champions.

In the national championship, it was another dominant performance, holding Oak Cliff to 0 points. Their signature play was a pick 6 by Naeem Burroughs who intercepted the pass and enjoyed a convoy all the way to the end-zone for a touchdown.

Westside went undefeated in their regular season at 7-0, and won the Greater Jax Pop Warner championship over Grand Park. Their D2 national championship is the first won by a Greater Jacksonville Pop Warner team since the Creeks Outlaws won in 2013. Grand Park won a D3 National Championship last year.

Pop Warner is in it’s 91st season and its Super Bowl title is the oldest and most prestigious national championship in youth football.
