Northeast Fl- We’ve updated the Football Madden Ratings for 2022. For the last three years, Duval Sports has released Madden Ratings for athletes in Northeast Florida and let’s just say it’s been interesting. It’s been a pretty fun story for the young athletes, being able to associate their favorite video game with their own personal athletic achievement. It’s all in fun, and all in the game as EA Sports says. So let’s break down the Madden Ratings, and look at what determines the overall ratings.

There are three main catagories that determine the overall Madden Ratings listed. Stats, Athleticism, and Opponents. Stats will be listed next to each player. Athleticism is based off what Duval Sports coorespondents have seen in person, or reviewed on Hudl. Opponents is based on strength of schedule and college offered players faced. The overall rating based on those three categories, is what’s shown in the skills bar.

Only the Top 25 players from each position will be listed. Players overall ratings must be graded at 80% or above to be listed. All stats are used from Maxpreps, the official stat provider for the FHSAA. If stats aren’t available, we reach out to each school for stats or simply factor in athleticism and strength of schedule. Finally, lets check out the Madden Rankings below.

This is probably the most talented group of defensive backs we’ve seen in the area since 2019. Headlining this year’s list is Ed White’s Davaughn Patterson, who is all around the best player in his class. Kyle Boylston showed why he is the best defensive back returning next year. Kavon Miller made his case as the best corner this year, with the numbers he put up. Speaking of numbers, Westside’s Carlton Cogdell accumilated impressive numbers for the Wolvernines. While Parker’s CJ Dorsey followed his stellar junior season where he led the area in interceptions, with an all-around effort in every statistical category. What makes these athelte’s ratings so high is their ability to play both sides of the ball at extremely high levels.

Davaughn Patterson- Ed White * 2-way Player, 56 tkls, 2 INTs, 536 Rush yds, 12 TDs
CJ Dorsey, DB, Parker * 2-way player, 2 INTs, 310 rush yds, 647 Rec yds, 4 TDs
Kavon Miller,DB, Bolles * 2-way player, 6 int, 10 total TDs
Kyle Boylston, S, Trinity * 2-way player, 51 tkls, 6 ints, 321 Rec yds , 5 TDs
Carlton Cogdell, DB, Westside * 2-way player, 6 INTs, 273 Rec Yds, 3 TDs

Next up are the highest recruited defnesive back in the area. Game changers not simply by stats, but by their impact on the game. Offensive coordinators avoided them, and they shut down their opposing wide receivers. Bartram’s Sharif Denson (UF signee), Amare Ferrell (Indiana signee), 4-star Jon Mitchell ( Mandarin), Kenton Kirkland of Raines (FSU signee), Landon Hale ( FIU signee) and 4-star Drake Stubbs of Oakleaf all took away areas for the field for their defenses.

Sharif Denson, DB, Bartram
Amare Ferrell, Columbia, 99 tackles, 5 interceptions

There were several defensive backs that made names for themselves in 2022. Their defensive production left no doubt, why they were considered the top defenders in Northeast Florida. Englewood’s 6’4 defensive back Jalen Scarver grabbed five picks. Davion Dean nabbed 5 ints for Baker County. Seth Brooks intercepted 5 passes for Jackson, and Dacarris Jacobs generated 5 interceptions for Orange Park.

From production to playmakers. These defensive backs made several big plays for their teams this year including pick 6’s. Josh Patterson (Ed White), Nicholas Kilpatrick (Raines), Elyjah Gilyard (Flagler Palm Coast), Jaylen Boyer, of Creekside and Kemani “Ke” Wilson of Bolles, all helped guide their teams to the playoffs with plays.

Without these players, some of the areas top defenses wouldn’t have achieve the success they did in 2022. Jarrin Alexander of Bradford, Zion Pittman of Riverside, Octavius Barnes (Baldwin), Antoine Belgrave-shorter (Mandarin), Sergio Lanzas (Bartram) and Ronald Bullard of Fletcher were all key pieces to punishing defenses.

Nicholas Kilpatrick, DB, Raines, 2 Ints, 3 pick 6’s

There were several players that graded over 80% and were deserving to make this list. Including Connor Hemmingway (Bartram, 2 INTs), Elijah Copes, (Sandalwood, 2 INTs), Jordan Williams ( Bishop Snyder, 5 Ints). However, there was room for only 25 players to be rated, and these were some of the best in Northeast Florida in 2022.
