Jacksonville Fl- What a season for the Ed White Commanders, and head coach Lawrence Johnson. His team finished the regular season 8-2 Thursday night, after defeating Baldwin 48-42 in a Halloween Thriller. The Commanders are one of the scariest teams heading into the postseason, as they’re one of the highest scoring teams in the State of Florida.
With their 48 points versus Baldwin, the Commanders finished a regular season scoring over 40 points against every opponent. Against Baldwin, King Boylston scored five touchdowns, 4 on the ground and 1 through the air. Last week against Riverside Boylston threw 2 TDs and rushed for 1. He finished his junior regular season with 1,844 yards passing, 22 passing touchdowns, along with 623 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns.
With Boylston leading the offense, the Commanders put up big numbers on the score board. Against Riverside last week, the Commanders wrapped up the district (2-0) with a 64-45 victory over their Westside rivals. In that game wide receiver King Mercer had 118 yards receiving and a touchdown through the air.
Yet all season its been the ground game that’s punished opponents. Rontrez Loyd score twice against Riverside. It was his third game this season with multiple rushing touchdowns, including three against Atlantic Coast. Finished with 11 touchdowns on the season. Fellow senior Joseph Williams has rushed for 622 yards and 7 TDs.
Even in losses, the Commanders were unstoppable on offense, showing the ability to score in many different ways. Although they fell to Oakleaf the game before Riverside, White went up early and scored 41 points falling by four points in the contest. Wide Receiver Nick Roberson showed out with with 119 yards receiving and 3 TDs in the game, mirroring his 147 yard, 2 TD performance vs Englewood earlier in the season.

Coach Johnson and his staff have been able to identify different weapons for the Commanders, including going “old school” by using a fullback. It’s refreshing to see them use every position on offense in an era of football that as all but phased out the full back position.

Senior Marion Laguerre might be the best in the area, possessing the ability to block, but also take it the distance as he did 4 times this season on the ground. He scored twice against Trinity in week 1, but also caught 2 touchdown passes against Merritt Island.
They’ve used defensive weapons on offense too, as senior safety Julian Holt has come in at running back and scored touchdowns and 2-point conversions, giving the Commanders a decisive advantage after touchdowns.

Holt captains an opportunistic defense in which both he and junior Jacquari Parks both have 3 picks on the year. They are vital contributors to the points scored by White, as Holt has 2 pick-6’s and Parks has one as well. Incredibly Holt has also added 2 kickoff returns for touchdowns, has he’s scores on offense, defense and special teams this year.

With the ability to score lots of points, against every type of opponent, and in every phase of the game, Ed White has proven that they are a power in Northeast Florida. The Commanders head for the playoffs confident that they can score with the best of them, and competed with the top teams in the state.
